In 2012, The Hours teamed up with Verb Syndicate to present Wonderwalls; a three day art festival in Wollongong. After two successful events and some accolades thrown in for good measure, it was time for the crew to descend upon Port Adelaide to share the Wonderwalls flavour with a South Australian audience.
For some bizarre reason (read: time & money), I personally decided to skip this year’s event. Luckily for me, I received a bombardment of heckling from The Hours team and at the eleventh hour (no pun intended) I grew a healthy dose of #FOMO and got my arse on the next flight to Adelaide.
I arrived on the Saturday morning, meaning that all of the murals were well and truly underway. My first sight of the festival was a very impressive 9-story mural by ETAM crew from Poland. On the flipside ASKEW and Elliot Francis Stewart were collaborating on their own 9-story banger – a homage to the history of the area and the Kaurna People.
As could be expected, the level of work was high and it was great to see a good mix between local and international talent. Ironlak Fam members LINZ & TREAS were getting busy, as were SMUG, Numskull, Beastman, MUGR, Gemma O’Brien, STOOPS & Kyle Hughes Odgers to name a few. And after a good session of art, some beers and some schnitzels I was back on a plane as fast as it had all begun. “Marvellous time to be had.”
The Hours’ Adelaide connect; VANS the OMEGA must get a huge shout out for his vision to bring this event to The Port. It was a really polished endeavour and I look forward to more events like it in the future. Thanks must also go to the people of Renewal SA & Our Port Adelaide for believing in VANS’ vision and making Wonderwalls happen.
Enough chitter-chatter. Here’s my photos from the weekend. Stay tuned for artwork photos tomorrow. –Dymskov
