The Ironlak dream began in 2002, when a young graffiti writer from Sydney wanted to offer Australian writers a premium spraypaint brand at an affordable price.

As the first Ironlak cans rolled onto shelves in 2004, the price of premium spraypaint was cut dramatically, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for Australian artists.

Starting your own spraypaint brand from scratch comes with a (not so) healthy dose of landmines and headaches. The support we’ve received over the years from writers around the world is what drives us to keep pursuing this crazy dream.

The original spirit of graffiti lives on. Know who you’re supporting.

Shortly after we soft-opened our doors at the new Ironlak Sydney store, we found ourselves with a vital piece of equipment missing from the storefront. See, one of the main challenges with designing the store, was this ridiculous gigantic concrete beam, sitting smack-bang in the front. The beam was structural, so we couldn’t take to it with a sledge, or use it for target practice while doing laps in the bulldozer.

Our solution was to use the beam as a massive light box. Ibbo, our builder, designed and ordered this amazing metal framed lightbox. We sat back and waited for it to arrive in one piece. As these things go, we were two days from opening, and no sign of the lightbox. Ibbo and his crew were chasing the thing from airport to airport and as of open date, it was MIA.

No wanting to leave this bloody massive beam sitting bare for all to see, we called our main man Scott Marsh and asked if he could come in and bless the beam with a little somethin’ somethin’, and bless the beam he did. Plan B was in effect.

Half the lightbox eventually showed up, but, like the ‘truth’, the other half is still out there. In the meantime, Scotty’s painting lives on…
